BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- After the Blizzard of 2015, residents in the state are having trouble finding firewood. And when they can find it, they've seen an increase in price. With more snow on the way along with the possibility of additional power outages, the shortage is becoming a big problem.
Charlie Blicker was just trying to stock up on firewood Thursday, but after striking out at four stores he started to lose hope.
"Yeah, there seems to be a shortage of wood," he said.
Chris Aimola tried several places to and said, "There's just none available right now."
Finally he found a business but all they had were scraps instead of chords.
"A normal log is like 16 inches long; these are all left over scraps of what he had left," he said.
Josh Oldfield has been running Thayer Nursery for 30 years in Milton and says he's never seen a shortage like this. He went on to say that even suppliers are having a hard time getting firewood.
"The number one factor I'm finding is that because the value of the log is going up, at paper mills they pay premium versus the firewood suppliers," he said.
He also says the younger generation isn't showing interest in logging and state regulations for wood have increased because of the Asian longhorn beetle infestation.
If you can find firewood, chances are the prices have gone up. Oldfield said he increased prices by 10 percent and others have gone even higher.
