‘Very chaotic’: First responders relive horror they encountered inside Lindsay Clancy’s home

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — In the Lindsay Clancy triple murder trial, first responders on Thursday described a “chaotic” scene as they struggled to save the lives of the Duxbury mother’s three young children.

“The scene that night, you know, discovering victim, then another victim, was that a chaotic scene?” prosecutor Jennifer Sprague asked.

Duxbury Firefighter PJ Hussey testified, “It turned very chaotic very quickly.”

At Plymouth County Superior Court, veteran firefighters and police officers described for the jury how they desperately tried to save the lives of Clancy’s children.

Clancy is charged with murdering her children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan, in January 2023. Prosecutors allege she used exercise bands to strangle the children after sending her husband, Patrick Clancy, out on an errand.

Clancy was found injured in the backyard after prosecutors say she jumped from a second-floor window in an apparent suicide attempt. She is now paralyzed.

At the scene, Hussey said that after hearing a man’s screams from the basement, he looked through a window.

“After I heard the scream, I saw a male, older male gentleman, now, knowing it was Patrick Clancy, unwrapping something from a child’s head,” Hussey testified.

On the stand earlier this week, Patrick Clancy said he removed exercise bands from his children’s necks as he found each of them.

Two children, Cora and Callen, were found near each other, away from their brother Dawson, in a nearby basement room.

First responders said they struggled to bring them back to life.

“So, when I got down to the basement, two fire personnel were already on scene,“ Duxbury Police Officer Brian Josephine testified. ”One was working on the baby, and one was working on Cora. Communicated with them. We worked together, and I took over doing chest compressions.”

When Callan was found with a slight pulse, Duxbury Firefighter Jennifer Stratton rushed him to a waiting ambulance.

“I scooped him up in my arms and carried him outside to the truck,” Stratton testified.

Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead at local hospitals. Callen never regained consciousness and died a few days later.

Several first responders also described Patrick Clancy as being in a state of shock as emergency crews worked inside the home.

The trial continues Friday with a jury view of the former Clancy home.

Lindsay Clancy will not be on that jury view.
