Man charged in hit-and-run crash that killed 72-year-old Brockton woman

BROCKTON, Mass. — Police have arrested a Brockton man in connection with a hit-and-run crash earlier this week that killed a 72-year-old city woman, the district attorney said.

Michael Blanche, 33, was charged with negligent motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene of a crash causing death, speeding, failing to yield, and driving a motor vehicle after suspension, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said late Thursday afternoon.

Tuesday’s crash killed 72-year-old Marie Rose Bien-Aime of Brockton.

She had been walking along Pleasant Street when she was struck by a green-colored vehicle that then drove off, police said after reviewing surveillance video.

Cruz said state police and Brockton detectives arrested Blanche on Thursday afternoon, after police located and identified that green car behind an abandoned residence around 10:45 a.m. Thursday.

Blanche is expected to be arraigned in Brockton District Court on Friday.

“I didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to my mom,” said Marc Bien-Aime, Marie Rose’s son.

Wiping away tears, he spoke fondly about his mother. “I lost my mother, I don’t want nobody else to lose their mother that way.” “Imagine, you hit somebody and you drive away. Why you go that fast?”

Bien-Aime says his mother was walking home after babysitting a family friend’s children. “She is not working for money, she’s working to give,” he said.

Bien-Aime says his mother raised 11 children and migrated from Haiti to the U.S. for a better life. “I brought my mom here to live the American dream, I’m shaking.” He said he hasn’t told his other siblings about the death of their mother since they are all back in their native Haiti.

Blanche, the alleged driver, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Brockton District Court.
