BROCKTON, Mass. — Holding back tears, Marc Bien-Aime says he’s heartbroken after learning his mother was killed Tuesday night.
She was 72 years old.
“Imagine yourself seeing your mother on the sidewalk, I try not to cry,” said Bien-Aime.
Police say Marie Rose Bien-Aime was walking on Pleasant Street in Brockton when she was hit by a car.
The driver didn’t stop.
“Yesterday morning I left the house, she was reading the bible,” said Bien-Aime.
Marc will never forget the last moments he had with his mother.
He says she always enjoyed life and was hardworking, especially while raising eleven children.
“I don’t know how I’m going to explain that to my brothers and sisters,” said Bien-Aime. “As the first born in family I have to be strong, to bring comfort.”
Marc says most of his siblings still live in Haiti.
His mother moved to the U.S. from Haiti years ago to live the American dream.
Police released surveillance Wednesday of the car they’re now looking for.
They say the car is green with a broken taillight, and they believe the driver of this car hit and killed Bien-Aime.
Meanwhile several people have visited the spot where she died to pray and light candles honoring her life.
“Right now I have to figure out what happened,” said Bien-Aime. “Why the driver didn’t stop?”
