2 women killed hours apart in 2 separate crashes in Brockton

BROCKTON, Mass. — Two women were killed in two separate crashes that occurred hours apart in Brockton on Tuesday.

In the first deadly crash, around 3:17 p.m., one woman died following a crash involving three vehicles on Belmont Street, or Route 123, in Brockton on Tuesday afternoon, state police and the district attorney said.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Belmont and Pearl streets.

Three hours later, around 6:15 p.m., a woman was struck and killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash near 259 Pleasant St., police said.

One driver has been arrested In the Belmont Street crash, officials said.

So far, no information has been released about a vehicle description in the hit-and-run crash that occurred on Pleasant Street.

In the Belmont Street crash, police, fire and emergency personnel responded to the scene after police received a 911 call at 3:17 p.m. from the nearby Speedway gas station on Belmont Street reporting the crash, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said while speaking to media shortly after 6 p.m. from the crash scene.

A state trooper was first on scene, Cruz said.

A male driving a black Acura was arrested, Cruz said. Witnesses said police used a taser to subdue the man before his arrest.

The driver of the second vehicle, a pickup truck, declined medical treatment at the scene, Cruz said.

A woman driving the third vehicle died, Cruz said. Shortly after 6 p.m., investigators were waiting for the medical examiner to arrive to the scene.

“This continues to be an active investigation right now. There’s much work to be done,” Cruz said, adding that investigators were seeking out surveillance video and speaking to witnesses.

Two of the three vehicles involved in the crash had crime scene tape around them. A third vehicle, a dark-colored sedan, sustained heavy damage.

Witnesses described a harrowing scene when the crash occurred.

“Oh (it was) straight out of a movie. He ran right through the light and he hit the guy in the truck first, it looked like an explosion, they spun around, hit the lady in the car, then it burst into everything,” said one man who ran to the scene after witnessing the crash.

Officials have not yet released the name of the man arrested, or the name of the woman who died.

Both fatal crashes remain under investigation.
