Woman killed in Brockton hit-and-run

BROCKTON, Mass. — A woman was killed in a hit-and-run on Pleasant Street in Brockton Tuesday night.

State and local police are investigating the accident, which happened around 6:15 p.m. Officers searched the neighborhood for witnesses and video.

Shaun Banion told Boston 25 News he was driving down Pleasant Street, when he saw shoes in the road and what he feared was a body. He was first to stop, he said.

“I was like, ‘Please let that woman be alive. Please!’ I didn’t know what to think,” Banion said. “I immediately called the police while I was in the car and called the paramedics while I was at it.”

Before first responders arrived, Banion parked and ran out to try to help the victim, he said.

“[I] got up, looked over, asked the person, are they okay? are they coherent? could they hear my voice? No response,” Banion said. “I went to check a pulse. No pulse.”

Police did not immediately release a description of a vehicle they are searching for.

The incident is the second fatal accident involving a female victim on Tuesday.

Three hours earlier, a woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash at Belmont and Pearl streets. Another driver was arrested for disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said. He could face additional charges related to the crash.
