BOSTON — The Fairmount Line 3:30 train was stopped at Uphams Corner in Dorchester after a person was hit and killed by the train, according to the MBTA.
Emergency crews told Boston 25 News they were responding to a report of a person hit by the train when reports first came in.
The MBTA said the Fairmount train left from South Station around 3:30 and was canceled due to the investigation at Uphams corner.
Residual delays backed up the southbound system after the cancellation.
Police later said the man hit by the train died from his injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the strike were not immediately known.
