The Patriots have released punter Jake Bailey after four seasons with the team.

Bailey was suspended by New England in January. The 25-year-old special teamer was placed on IR with a back injury in November.

In a statement, Bailey’s agent Doug Hendrickson said Bailey never missed a treatment, meeting or practice while on IR and that the punter would file a grievance against the suspension.

A 2020 All-Pro selection, the Stanford alum regressed the past two seasons. Thirty-year-old Michael Palardy stepped into the punting role to finish the season.

Bailey was set to enter the second year of a 4-year,$13.5 million contract extension that made him one the league’s highest-paid punters in 2022.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
