10-year-old boy run over by a car, gets up and walks away

BROCKTON, Mass. — Frances Martins says her 10-year-old son could have been killed when he was run over by a car Monday afternoon in Brockton.

“I was devastated I really didn’t know how to react, outrage for a second, but then got my son to the hospital,” said Martins. “My son’s traumatized.”

Luckily she says he didn’t even break a bone and bounced back up after the car ran over his legs.

Her friend’s surveillance caught it on camera.

Martins says her son was laying down after he got dizzy and winded playing basketball with his friends and siblings.

She says lots of kids play on Somerset Place in Brockton since it’s a dead end road.

“It’s broad daylight, there are kids out on the street,” said Martins. “You also see those kids when you’re in a vehicle if you’re actually paying attention.”

Brockton police have charged the driver for driving without a license since he’s underage, but Martins says that one charge isn’t enough for such a close call.

“The police report downplays the whole incident like it was a minor traffic violation like he got pulled over, and just didn’t have his permit or his license on him, slap on the wrist,” said Martins. “No, this video shows more than that.”

Brockton police say this is still under investigation and this driver will likely face more charges.
