A music teacher for two South Shore catholic schools has been placed on paid leave pending an investigation stemming from an allegation of inappropriate conduct with a student. The alleged interaction occurred with a student at St. Paul School in Hingham, according to a letter to the school community from administrators.

Matthew Browne, who works part time for St. Paul School as well as Sacred Heart School in Weymouth, is the subject of the allegation. Both schools serves students from preschool through eighth grade.

According to the letter – signed by the St. Paul School principal, Lisa M. Fasano, and the school’s pastor, Reverend Tom Nestor – does not tell what the allegation is, but says it regards, “inappropriate conduct involving Mr. Browne, our music teacher, regarding his interactions with one of our students.”

The letter goes on to outline the steps the school has taken in response to the allegation, including placing Browne on paid leave. St. Paul School has also informed the Archdiocese of Boston and, “the appropriate civil authorities.”

In the message, the school explains that they are following already in place guidelines in their investigation and public discussion of the matter.

Sacred Heart School, which also employs Browne as a part time music teacher, also sent a letter to their community acknowledging the allegation. The school also informed parents, faculty and staff that they too were placing Browne on administrative leave.

Their letter states that complaints have not been made against Browne from students at Sacred Heart School.
