Weather Alert: Blizzard

POWERFUL NOR’EASTER

A Weather Alert will be in effect all day for a major impact nor’easter.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect until 7am Tuesday for much of the area. Snow will fall heavily throughout the day at a rate of 2–3″ per hour at times. Although conditions will be the absolute worst this morning, travel this afternoon will be near impossible with steady, heavy snow and strong wind.

Snow continues through the afternoon, gradually tapering from west to east between 5pm and 10pm. By the time it winds down, we’re looking at 1-2 feet of snow in most of the area with parts of southeastern MA and RI seeing slightly more.

This is a heavy, wet snow. That means two things: it will be tough to shovel, and it will weigh down trees and power lines. Power outages are a real concern, especially with gusts 60-70 mph along the coast and southeastern MA in particular.

Minor coastal flooding is possible from Boston through the North Shore, the Seacoast and into southern New Hampshire. Moderate coastal flooding is possible along the South Shore, Cape Cod and the Islands with the 3pm high tides today and again around 4am Tuesday.

The storm pulls away late tonight, but cleanup and lingering impacts will last for days.

MORE SNOW?

Light snow is expected Wednesday during the day. It only looks like 1-3″, so resulting in slight delays only.

Another wintry mix will come through Thursday night or Friday, but it’s too soon for specific details.
