Edelman, Gronk's Opening Day shenanigans lead to dented Lombardi Trophy

Patriots fans knew Rob Gronkowski would leave a lasting impression after his retirement, but probably not in a permanent fashion on the team's latest Lombardi Trophy.

The team was honored at Fenway Park last week as the Red Sox took on the Blue Jays in their home opener, with Gronk, Julian Edelman, the McCourty twins and plenty of others making the trip to see the Fenway faithful.

However, as the team was warming up for their first pitch fame, things took a turn when Edelman took to the mound and Gronk manuevered towards the plate with the team's newest Super Bowl trophy in tow.

The Patriots released video on Twitter of Gronkowski holding the Lombardi Trophy like a baseball bat, looking to "Do Damage" to a pitch from Edelman.

Instead, Gronk, like a surprise bunt from "Big Papi" David Ortiz, shocked his teammates by settling for a dribbler down the makeshift infield, putting a dent in the trophy in the process.

Gronkowski was forced to bring the dented hardware out to the field at Fenway for the Opening Day ceremony, with Patriots photographers capturing visible damage to the team's newest addition to the trophy case.

While Gronkowski will be enjoying his life in retirement with the potential of a life in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he'll still be remembered as the Patriots open their season in 2019 with a dented Lombardi Trophy on their Opening Night.
