Idaho motel shooting leaves 3 dead

KAMIAH, Idaho — Three people are dead after gunfire erupted at an Idaho motel Monday evening, authorities said.

According to KXLY, the incident occurred about 5 p.m. at the Sundown Motel on Third Street in Kamiah. Lewis County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and learned that three people had been shot and killed, KLEW reported.

Sheriff Jason Davis told reporters that the public was not in danger, and no law enforcement officers were injured in the incident, the news outlets reported. No information about a possible suspect or arrests was immediately available.

Later Monday, Idaho Gov. Brad Little took to Twitter to offer support to Kamiah residents.

“My heart is with the people of Kamiah tonight. Details regarding an incident are still emerging, but we know lives will be impacted by the events that took place tonight,” he wrote. “Please refrain from calling local police or fire services in the Kamiah area unless it’s an emergency. Officials will release information as it becomes available. There is currently no ongoing threat to the area.”

Idaho State Police, Nez Perce Tribal Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation also are assisting with the investigation, according to KLEW.
