Coronavirus: Global cases top 25M as US cases approach 6M

The total number of novel coronavirus cases worldwide surpassed 25 million Sunday, resulting in at least 844,283 global deaths since the pandemic began.

According to a Johns Hopkins University tally, total global COVID-19 infections reached 25,110,083 Sunday, with nearly one quarter, or 5,992,401 cases, confirmed in the United States. Virus-related deaths nationwide now total 183,034.

Outside the United States, the 10 nations with the highest number of infections recorded to date are as follows:

Brazil: 3,846,153 cases, resulting in 120,462 deaths.

India: 3,542,733 cases, resulting in 63,498 deaths.

Russia: 987,470 cases, resulting in 17,045 deaths.

Peru: 639,435 cases, resulting in 28,607 deaths.

South Africa: 625,056 cases, resulting in 14,028 deaths.

Colombia: 599,884 cases, resulting in 19,063 deaths.

Mexico: 591,712 cases, resulting in 63,819 deaths.

Spain: 439,286 cases, resulting in 29,011 deaths.

Chile: 409,974 cases, resulting in 11,244 deaths.

Argentina: 401,239 cases, resulting in 8,401 deaths.
