Four men save life of man in cardiac arrest on basketball court

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — They were in the right place at the right time and now are being called angels for saving the life of a man who collapsed on a basketball court in Virginia.

Kei'Shon Page, 20, KeiJuan Paige, 15, Mark Jones, 19, and Ricardo Smith, 16, were playing a pickup game in Henrico County, Virginia, when they saw a man lying on the court, WTVR reported.

They waited for a couple of minutes, thinking the man was tired.

"Then his son was looking at us, so we just walking over there to see what was wrong," Jones told WTVR.

When the four men tried to lift the man from the ground, he was limp in their arms, so they laid him back down on the court.

He had apparently been in cardiac arrest.

"The man got cold. His stomach got tight and his chest was hard. The only thing I knew what to do was push on his chest," Kei'Shon Paige told WTVR.

Another man, who had been playing tennis at the time, helped Kei’Shon give the man chest compressions until help could arrive.

While the man was being attended to, Jones drove his son to his home to get family.

“We tried to get the son away because he started crying and we didn’t want (him) to see his dad laid out,” Jones said. “We got the boy in the car and we drove him to his mother’s house to get his mother.”

Kei’Shon said he never had a class on CPR.

"I guess you could say God led me in the right direction. I just put my hands in the right spot -- nobody never told me how to do that," Kei'Shon told WTVR.

Kei’Shon said the man’s wife got in touch with him and called him and his friends “her four angels.”
