Thieves caught on camera breaking into Mansfield home as couple slept inside

MANSFIELD — Two men were caught on a home security camera breaking into a Mansfield home while the homeowners were upstairs sleeping early Tuesday morning.

The thieves had stolen a set of house keys from an unlocked car at the Stearns Ave., home, around 3 a.m., before they quietly let themselves into the house and grabbed a laptop and a small amount of cash.

“I couldn’t believe they did it,” said Arlene Coccia whose husband woke her up at 5 a.m., to alert her of the break-in. “I’m disturbed by it. A little bit of the peace [is] taken away.”

The Coccias’ security camera captured clear images of the crime, which police later posted on social media, asking for the public’s help in identifying the criminals.

“I’m just grateful that they snuck in, they took a few things and they left, and they didn’t do anything to us,” Coccia said. “They got away with things that can be replaced, and no harm was done to us.”

Within hours of releasing pictures of the suspects, as well as additional photos of the pair and their car at a local convenience store, Mansfield police announced they had identified one suspect and were working to locate him.

Kevin Gearhart, 54, who police say is homeless, is wanted on charges including felony breaking and entering, larceny and conspiracy.

Police ask anyone with information on the second suspect or the whereabouts of either to call them at 508-261-7300.
