Police: 3-year-old child, grandmother hit by car in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. — A woman and a young child were hit by a car in Worcester Wednesday morning, according to police.

The Worcester Police Department told Boston 25 News a 3-year-old child and grandmother were hit by a car outside Foley Stadium near the crosswalk.

Both victims were taken to the hospital in "stable condition." They have sustained serious but non-lifethreatening injuries.

According to police, a red Toyota Prius was stopped at the crosswalk when a silver Chevy Malibu crashed into the back of it, bounced off and hit a grandmother and her 3-year-old granddaughter as they were about to enter the crosswalk.

A Department of Public Works crew saw the crash and sprang into action, rescuing the toddler from under the silver Malibu. We're told the workers lifted the car to get to the child.

"I don't even know what to say, there are no words to say you're talking about an infant or a child anyway," Dan Patenaude told Boston 25 News. "My partner and I, Jay said, 'let's lift.' We lift. Got the car off. One of the other guys grabbed the baby from underneath, pulled her out."

The victims were still listed in stable condition at last check.
