Parents upset after 6th grader allegedly shouts racial slurs, threats at dance

STOUGHTON, Mass. – Parents and students in Stoughton tell Boston 25 they are shocked after a sixth-grade student allegedly yelled racial slurs and threatened students with a plastic knife.

The incident happened during a Halloween dance Friday night for students of O’Donnell Middle School.

“He was running around saying that ‘I want to kill all the black kids,’ then saying all the other minorities as well,” parent Randy Yanoff said. “They told us, it was a racial incident with a child that had a plastic knife.”

That same night, school officials sent an email to parents about what happened.

This evening at the sixth grade dance, there was an incident between some students that involved, at the very least, some racial slurs. This situation was handled immediately and will continue to be investigated when school resumes on Monday. Everyone has a right to feel respected and safe at school and at school functions.

Parents expressed their concerns to Boston 25 News. They say, they send their children to school, to get an education and to be successful in life.

“It makes me wonder if the schools are safe or not. Right now, a lot of the parents don’t feel safe with their kids at the schools,” Yanoff said.

School officials sent out another follow up email on Halloween day. In short, the superintendent says they are working with the Police Department regarding this matter. School administrators will work with students to talk about having respect for everyone.

It’s unclear if the student will face any disciplinary action.
