(MyFoxBoston.com) -- A central Massachusetts family opened up about their lost brother exclusively to FOX25's Bob Ward. One of his sisters has traveled across the world just to try and find him.
"He just wouldn't not call any of us," said Scott Leger's sister Heidi Antunes.
She is deeply worried about her brother. So worried, in fact, that when he disappeared, she moved home from Hawaii .
"I told my husband I want to go home right now. Right now. We ended up leaving everything behind. Everything we owned. We brought back home two bags of luggage. That's it," she said.
Scott Leger was last seen here at a home in Athol where he lived with his girlfriend.
On Dec. 7, 2013, at about 9 p.m., after an argument with his girlfriend, Scott disappeared.
"His girlfriend said she was going to call the police. Because he was intoxicated. She did go through with that call to 911," said Mass. State Police Trooper Darling. "He left the residence out the front door. That was the last anyone has seen or heard from him."
Scott Leger is described as a family man, an outdoorsman. But he was also a guy who had occasional minor scrapes with the law.
In March 2013, Scott got out of jail after serving a few months for disorderly conduct
On the night he disappeared, Scott had an open warrant for another minor offense.
With an open warrant,he wasn't about to wait for the police to show up. So he stormed out of the house , walked down the driveway, and then disappeared. More than a year later, no one knows what happened to him.
He had no money, no car, and on a night when temperatures plunged into the teens, no warm clothes.
"This is out of character for him because he would contact one of the sisters every day by phone," Trooper Darling said.
Michelle Gingras remembers her brother's calls.
"After my divorce, he always checked on me everyday," she said.
And sister Heidi still has one of them one her phone, just before she moved to Hawaii.
"Hi Heidi, this is your brother Scott. Just calling to see how you were. I know you are leaving in a few days. Give me a call when you get a second. I love you," he says on the voicemail.
"I need help finding him," Heidi said.
In woods near the house where Scott disappeared, FOX25 was the only media joining the search for him.
Massachusetts State Trooper Doug Heppleston and his dog Dan-O carefully scoured ten acres where Scott liked to fish.
Dan-O is trained to find the scent of a human body.
Heidi watched as Dan-O worked. But it was not to be.
"We got no cadaver hits or indication whatsoever," trooper Heppleston said.
It was tough news for Scott's family, but they are not giving up.
"It's hopeful in a way," Heidi said. "He might still be out there."
