NOBADEER BEACH, Nantucket — A swimmer died Wednesday after being found in the waters off of a Nantucket beach.
Around noon, lifeguards were responding to a group of 8 to 12 people who were in distress in the water off Nobadeer Beach, outside of the swim zone.
As they were bringing the group back to shore, they noticed something suspicious. When they approached, they found a man face down. He was also outside of the lifeguarded area.
Lifeguards pulled the man to shore and gave him CPR. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he later died.
The man was a 47-year-old from the Boston area. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
The fire chief said it is currently a double red flag and no swimming is allowed at the beach.
