Man breaks into Norfolk home, leads police on high-speed chase

NORFOLK, Mass. - Police say a Quincy man violated his parole when he broke into a Norfolk home and ran from authorities.

Jeff Janes told Boston 25 News he got home from lunch only to find 43-year-old Dana Durfee in one of his bedrooms. Janes also found Durfee's black Mercedes parked in his driveway.

According to police, Durfee managed to escape by jumping out of a window, but was captured a few minutes later in Foxboro after leading officers on a high-speed chase.

"Basically I saw him running and he jumped, all I saw was his foot going out the window and I started chasing him out the other end of the house," said Janes.

Durfee was released on parole last year after serving three years in state prison for a number of charges, including breaking and entering. Now, Durfee is being held without bail.

Cell phone video recorded on Route 115 where it meets Route 140 in Foxboro shows the moment police arrested Durfee.

Norfolk Police say they knew exactly what happened thanks to Janes.

"He just used some type of tool he cut the edges of the screen just enough so he could put his fingers in and unlock the screen window and lift it up," said Janes.

Janes says that, after Durfee jumped through the window, he got in his car and hit the gas, taking down trees across the street during his getaway.

Janes then called 911 and officers spotted Durfee's car minutes later.

"We received a call yesterday based on the report in the local newspaper that a man matching his description was attempting to break in to a house in Wrentham," said norfolk Police Sergeant Robert Shannon.

Durfee is facing nine new charges in connection with this break-in.
