Lowell Police searching for driver in hit-and-run crash

LOWELL, Mass. - Lowell Police are looking to find a driver who hit a woman and fled.

On Tuesday night, a 46-year-old woman riding a motorized wheelchair was struck by a car on Middlesex Street.

The woman's daughter told Boston 25 News that a medical condition left her mother paralyzed for years, but she recently started walking again.

In the crash, the woman's leg was nearly severed and will require surgery. Her family is worried how that will impact the progress she's made.

Police are now looking for the driver who hit her and fled.

Lowell Police say they're looking for a 2000-2004 Mercury Sable with heavy front-end damage. They believe the car may have blue paint on the front end due to striking the scooter.

Anyone with information should call Lowell Police at (978)937-3200.
