SEEKONK, Mass. — An investigation is ongoing after police pursued a suspect who was wanted for a Sunday morning break-in of a store in Seekonk
Seekonk police responded to a notification from an alarm company indicating a break-in at a business on Route 6 shortly before 6:45 a.m., according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the DA’s Officer, the responding officers saw that the business was broken into and gave a description of the suspect, who was seen leaving the area on foot. The suspect took off from the scene in a black Honda heading down Route 6 before losing control of the car, hit the curb, and rolled on its side of the road.
The suspect then opened fire on the officers with an AK-47 Model rifle. The officers returned fire and the suspect dies at the scene, according to the DA’s Office.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday afternoon the suspect is 47-year-old, Jeffrey Groulx of New Hampshire.
The Massachusetts Medical Examiner’s Office completed the autopsy of the suspect and found that he was shot three times, one of those shots being the cause of his death.
The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.
