HYANNIS, Mass. — State and local police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection to the shooting of a Mass. State Police Trooper Friday night in Hyannis, law enforcement announced Tuesday at a press conference. That suspect has been identified as Andre K. Sterling, a 35-year-old man, who should be considered armed and dangerous.

Sterling is wanted on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, along with assault and battery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm. Police describe him as five-foot-eleven, 175 pounds with a scar on his left hand.

The weapon used in the Friday night shooting of a Mass. State Trooper has not yet been recovered, police said, prompting the armed and dangerous designation from officials.
Police said Sterling also has outstanding warrants in Massachusetts for identity fraud, assault and battery on a police officer, and failure to stop for police. He is also wanted in the State of Wyoming for narcotics charges.

Trooper John Lennon, 28, was shot in his right hand Friday night after stopping a car on Camp Steet in Hyannis just after 11:30 p.m. The bullet went through Lennon’s hand and struck the ballistic vest on his shoulder, police said. A fellow trooper, Timothy Shields, took Trooper Lennon to Cape Cod Hospital, where he remained before being transferred to Mass. General Hospital.
A GoFundMe has been organized to help Trooper Lennon. So far, more than $143,000 have been raised, surpassing the original goal of $100,000.
