WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Three people, including a Massachusetts State Police trooper, were injured during a crash on Route 24 in West Bridgewater, early Saturday morning.
According to State Police, a trooper was conducting a motor vehicle stop when his cruiser was struck and pushed into him while he was on the roadside.
An initial investigation indicates that a 2020 Toyota Tacoma driven by Ildo Wilson De Pina reared ended the trooper’s cruiser while the officer was conducting a traffic stop. The 38-year-old Taunton man’s Tacoma allegedly pushed the cruiser into the trooper and the car that had just been pulled over.
The trooper, De Pina and the driver of the third vehicle were all taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton to be treated for their minor injuries.
De Pina was released from the hospital Saturday morning and will face charges of OUI liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, move over law violation, and marked lanes violation.
Route 24 South was temporarily shut down at Route 123 in Brockton and traffic was diverted to Route 123. Route 24 reopened shortly after 2 a.m. according to MassDOT.
The crash is under investigation by the State Police-Middleborough Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. Troopers were assisted at the crash by MassDOT.
