MARBLEHEAD, Mass. — Emergency responders rescued a man who fell 16 feet into a crevice at Castle Rock in Marblehead on Saturday.
The rescue occurred at 377 Ocean Ave. at around 3:40 p.m., the fire department said in a Facebook post.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found the man had fallen into the crevice near the ocean and was unable to extricate himself.
Two firefighters descended into the crevice to start medical care and additional manpower was requested.
Using ladders, ropes, harnesses, and a stokes basket, first responders extricated the man from the crevice and carefully carried him down the rest of the steep terrain to an awaiting stretcher.
He was taken by ambulance to a Boston area hospital. His condition was not known.
Salem Fire covered Marblehead’s station during the rescue.
