PLYMOUTH, Mass. — The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy could move more quickly than initially anticipated after the Duxbury mother personally addressed the court for the first time on Tuesday and agreed to stipulate to portions of the prosecution’s case.
Clancy’s decision allows prosecutors to avoid calling numerous witnesses to establish certain pieces of evidence, potentially shortening what had been expected to be a lengthy trial.
Wednesday’s proceedings ended early, with the judge scheduled to address another matter involving both sides later in the afternoon.
A forensic toxicology expert was called to the stand to testify on the levels of drugs that were found in Lindsay’s system. A DNA analyst also spoke on matching the DNA from the middle of the exercise bands to the children.
The children’s nanny took the stand to speak on caring for the children in late 2022. She said Lindsay was a “wonderful mother who loved her kids” and “was never concerned for their safety.”
She also shared that Lindsay told her about her postpartum issues and not being able to sleep.

During Wednesday’s proceedings in Plymouth Superior Court, Clancy confirmed she understood that the stipulated facts could support elements of the Commonwealth’s case.
“Do you understand that there are certain facts that could be introduced during the course of the trial that would support, might support, the Commonwealth’s position regarding those elements? Do you understand that?”
“Yes, your honor,” Clancy said.
According to defense attorney Kevin Reddington, the agreement primarily covers technical evidence, including the chain of custody for blood and other biological samples, exercise bands, and DNA evidence.
Clancy is accused of strangling her three young children with exercise bands in the basement of the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023 after allegedly sending her husband, Patrick Clancy, out on an errand.
She has pleaded not guilty to multiple murder charges.
The defense argues Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings and is not criminally responsible. Prosecutors contend the killings were deliberate and planned.
