CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Authorities are turning to the public for help after a fire that tore through a Cambridge church on Easter was deemed an act of arson.

The fire started around 5:30 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church/Eritrean Evangelical Church in Cambridge on April 9 and quickly ripped through the building just minutes after Easter service ended.

There were no reports of any injuries, but firefighters battled the flames for hours. The church’s steeple was later dismantled.

State police investigators are seeking any pictures or video of the church taken on April 8 (the day before the fire), anytime on April 9, or during firefighting operations (between 5:30 p.m. April 9 and 4 a.m. on April 10).

“No piece of information is too small to share. We are keenly aware that any place of worship is a cornerstone of the community, and we want to reassure residents that we’re approaching this case with the seriousness and gravity that it deserves,” said Cambridge Fire Chief Thomas Cahill.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the FBI’s toll-free tip line at 1-800-225-5324.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
