BOSTON — They say you should never meet your heroes.
Well, one Red Sox fan did – he just didn’t realize it.
Jason Varitek was at Canobie Lake Park with his family when his kids spotted a man wearing a Varitek t-shirt. Tek’s wife, Catherine, began filming as the ex-Sox captain approached him and asked about the pizza.
“It’s just microwavable pizza,” the man replied.
The conversation then shifted to his shirt, with the man saying he has “always” been a fan of Varitek’s. It’s only when Tek introduced himself - “hello, I’m Jason” - that it dawned on him:
“Dude,” he said, giving Varitek a hug. “Oh my God, it’s Jason Varitek. Dude, you got me.”
