BOSTON — On Thursday morning, the Bruins ensured one of hockey’s most dynamic offensive players will be a fixture on their top lines for the foreseeable future.

Boston signed star forward David Pastrnak to an 8-year, $90 million contract extension, the team announced. The deal will carry an average annual value of $11.25 million.

The former All-Star and Maurice Richard Trophy winner leads the Bruins in goals (42), assists (38), points (80), pointers per game (1.33) even strength goals (28), even strength points (51), power play goals (14), and power play points (29) this season. With 22 games remaining, Pasta has already eclipsed the 40-goal mark for the third time in his career.

The 26-year-old already ranks top 20 in Bruins history in goals, (9th 282), hat tricks (3rd, 13) assists (18th, 302) and points (14th, 584.)

Pasta’s new deal is the richest contract the Bruins have handed out in team history and locks up Pasta through the 2030-2031 NHL season.

The Czech Republic native was originally drafted by the Bruins with the 25th overall pick in the 2014 NHL draft.

The Bruins currently hold the NHL’s best record at 47-8-5.

Pasta’s new deal was Boston’s second headline-grabbing move of the morning. The Bruins also traded two picks to Detroit for playmaking forward Tyler Bertuzzi.
