81-year-old man dead after hit-and-run crash in Falmouth

FALMOUTH, Mass. — Police are investigating a serious hit-and-run accident that happened late Friday night, resulting in the death of an 81-year-old man on Grand Avenue in Falmouth.

The Falmouth Police Department told Boston 25 News a car vs. pedestrian crash occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m. at 201 Grand Ave. in Falmouth Heights. Police were told the vehicle fled the scene of the crash after it struck an 81-year-old man who sustained fatal injuries.

The victim was walking on the sidewalk with three other adults while the vehicle, believed to be a red sedan, was traveling easterly at a high rate of speed when it traveled onto the sidewalk and struck the victim from behind. The driver did not stop, and the vehicle continued down Grand Ave. before making its way onto Menauhant Road, authorities say.

Falmouth Police added that the other pedestrians did not report any injuries. Witnesses also told police the vehicle rides low to the ground, has heavy windshield damage, and likely other serious front-end damage.

The Falmouth Police Department and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. If anyone knows further details regarding the crash, they are asked to call the Falmouth Police Department at (774) 255-4527.
