Temporary fix underway after dispute with contractor stalled Hull seawall project

HULL, Mass. — A South Shore community has been caught in the middle of a legal battle that has a much-needed seawall unfinished as winter gets ready to ramp up.

Hull town officials say the original contractor abandoned the project leaving homes and streets vulnerable to storms.

"We were looking forward to a completed wall that would offer a whole new level of protection to folks living on this street," said longtime Hull resident John Loupos.

But now, residents are breathing easier after the town manager secured a new contractor to build the protective barrier.

"That will bring protection for the winter storms until we can sort through the legal mess that we are left with," Hull Town Manager Phil Lemnios.

The former contractor, Rc&D out of Rhode Island, told Boston 25 News last year they did not abandon the project. The town says the case could be in limbo for years, but the materials for the temporary barrier will ultimately be used in the final project.
