BOSTON — It could be a difficult few months ahead; that was the warning from the governor during his Tuesday briefing on the coronavirus.
“The biggest single issue that is driving case growth is familiar people being familiar with each other,” Gov. Charlie Baker said.
The governor said the health data on the weekly maps continues to show the biggest spread is happening among people in their 20s and 30s.
“That community more than any other at this point is driving the single biggest increases in cases,” Gov. Baker said.
In Tuesday’s briefing, the governor and members of his cabinet focused mainly on all the efforts they have put into place since March to battle the virus and explained why his team believes the state is ready to handle both the flu and COVID-19.

“A big part of what we have been up to over the course of the summer is to make sure we had a robust testing infrastructure in place,” Gov. Baker said.
Boston 25 News also asked the governor if the weekly map system needs any adjustments. Some towns have complained they have an outbreak in a jail or on a college campus and the entire town is being labeled “high risk.”
Gov. Baker said the information in those maps needs to be taken over a period of time, not just that week.
“Because it does provide surveillance and it does provide regular information about which direction their community is going and where they are at. And that is the way we think we should play this,” he said.
The governor wrapped the briefing with a new plea for people to stay vigilant, even in their own homes as people spend time indoors.
“If you have been out of state or around a bunch of people without masks or distancing, you need to socially distant and wear a mask around your family and you should get tested,” he said.
The next weekly map will be released on Wednesday.
