Covid-19 profanity-laced slogan approved by Boston University

BOSTON — Colorful language will be sprinkled through Boston University as students start returning to campus over the next couple weeks.

BU will have a hybrid model this semester with some students on campus, some working from home, some doing both. Once the university decided to bring students back to campus, the faculty realized messages of safety would have to come from the students.

"With **** it won't cut it we wanted to use more bold language," said BU senior Lindsey Rosenblatt.

“It’s about safety and a catchy edgy punchline,” said graduate student Hailey McKee. “It really is meant to get your attention and not only that but it’s meant to be memorable and actionable.”

Eight selected advertising & PR students picked the slogan and created several social media campaigns.

“Want to stay on campus this fall? Here’s how. We know it’s on us. We can’t say **** it to health and safety rules,” one campaign said.

"Instead of going to a party we would rather students hang out with a small group of friends in their apartment and in a social distancing way," said Rosenblatt. "Also we're encouraging people to hang out outside and obviously to wear masks that all time."

BU trademarked the name hoping students will spread the slogan and not COVID-19.

“Of course I had reservations,” said Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore. “You always wonder if it’s going to vibe with everyone but we asked them to come up with a campaign that was going to reach students and my first thought was this is going to reach students.”

"This is not just about you wanting to go back and enjoy college," said Rosenblatt. "This is a much bigger issue. We're living in a pandemic there's faculty and staff that are also on campus and are also living in the city of Boston surrounded by so many people."

The campaign is for students and by students to remind each other being on campus is a privilege and they can easily go back to having zoom meetings from their high school bedrooms.
