Close call: Vehicle leaving car wash slams into fence in Randolph, narrowly missing bystanders

RANDOLPH, Mass. — It was a close call that was caught on camera in Randolph. According to the general manager of Prestige Car Wash and Gas, their surveillance video captured the moment a car sped across the parking lot and smashed into a wooden fence.

“I was like ‘holy crap!’ Honestly, it was crazy,” explained Nicole Teles.

Teles said that the driver was coming out of their car wash facility Saturday morning, shortly after 8 a.m. According to Teles, the vehicle was in neutral and the driver’s foot was accidentally on the accelerator. After shifting into drive, the vehicle then took off.

“Luckily she avoided some of the vehicles that were in the parking lot, and she didn’t hit anybody,” Teles said.

The car proceeded to plow over a vacuum station and knock over part of the fence. There was heavy damage seen on the front of the vehicle.

“It was bad, you know. Air bags deployed, and she’s lucky she didn’t get hurt,” Teles said.

The surveillance video shows people quickly running over to help after the driver crashed.

Teles explained that the car wash business had only been open for a month, and that this was the second time someone had accidentally crashed their car without ever leaving the parking lot.

She said the business has also seen a heavy stream of customers, due to employees offering free car washes and free vacuum cleaning as a promotional event.

“People have got to be very cautious going through the car wash, be very alert, it’s just like you’re driving in the road,” she said. “When you’re pulling out, you have to be ready for it so we’re not having any accidents.”

Teles told Boston 25 News on Sunday night that the business is waiting for an appraisal to see how much the damage will cost to repair, but estimates that it may be between $5,000 and $7,000 because the vacuum station needs to be replaced.

Our news crews did try to reach the driver at her home in Randolph Sunday night to ask about her condition, but were unable to get in touch.
