WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two young children were found alone in an apartment in Worcester Friday.
The children, who are now in DCF custody, were left alone at 272 Pleasant St. and one of them was believed to be as young as 6 months. Police were first alerted to the children after neighbors called at about 9 a.m. to say they heard crying coming from the apartment.
It was concern, well-founded, as when Worcester firefighters finally broke down the door they found the two small children inside.
"Can't say nothin' bad. I mean everybody has their problems," one neighbor said.
He didn't want to show his face on camera, but a neighbor who lives at 272 Pleasant St. and who knows the children's mother says she struck him as a good parent.
"She was a working mother. And I see her put her kids on the van going to school every morning. And then I see her catching a bus, going to work," he said.
One report says the children were in good health, but filthy. DCF took custody of the children and issued a statement indicating the agency was investigating the situation and working with law enforcement on its investigation.
There is no word on how long the children were there, who there parents are, and if any charges will be filed.
