Car narrowly misses customers, employees after going through Mansfield bakery

A car went through a bakery in Mansfield, narrowly missing the customers and employees inside, according to Mansfield Police.

Crews rushed to White's Bakery & Cafe on School Street for reports of a car driving completely through the building, and fire officials told Boston 25 News that an SUV plowed through the storefront around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

No one was injured in the crash, with about two or three customers and five employees inside the bakery at the time of the incident.

"Very, very fortunately, no one was injured in this incident," Mansfield Deputy Fire Chief Jim Puleo said. "There were customers in the store, but as the car came through the building, it veered towards the right away from any customers and staff, so we're lucky there."

Fire officials said when they arrived on scene, the driver was still in the car.

The driver, a woman in her 60s, was not injured and refused medical treatment, and police are investigating what caused the crash.

The owner of the bakery told Boston 25 News they will be closed Thursday and Friday, but plan to open again on Saturday.
