"Signal issues" are affecting multiple trains on commuter rail lines Tuesday morning.
Nine commuter rail lines are delayed between 15 to 30 minutes -- except for the Fitchburg, Haverhill and Lowell lines -- due to what the MBTA is describing in tweets as "signal issues."
A spokesperson for Keolis, which operates the commuter rail line, said an "Amtrak signaling control issue" is the culprit, affecting train service in and out of South Station. Crews are working to fix it but delays are expected to continue through the morning, according to Keolis.

Adding to riders' frustration, it also appears there were no alerts sent to riders informing them of the delays this morning, with the MBTA apologizing in a tweet and acknowledging an "issue with the alert system."
We apologize for your frustration. Thank you for making us aware. There seems to be an issue with the alert system, we have reported this problem to the proper department for a resolution. ^JB

The app to pay for parking is also not working. The MBTA says the vendor of the app, paybyphone, confirmed the app is down and is working on a fix.
@PayByPhone_NA has confirmed that the app is down. They are working on a resolution - we will share updates as soon as we have them.

Cars will not be ticketed or towed. Once @PayByPhone_NA service is restored, they will allow customers to pay then. They will check parked cars after customers are notified that service is restored.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
