Wally the Green Monster up for Mascot Hall of Fame, vote ends Saturday

BOSTON — Wally The Green Monster has some important next few days coming up, and not just because he may be off for the rest of the season depending on how the Red Sox fare in Friday’s ALCS Game 6 and even a potential Game 7 in Houston the following day.

No, some other scoring Wally will have to watch is the vote tally for the Mascot Hall of Fame, which will come to an end on Saturday, October 23. The big green monster himself will be inducted if he clears the 60%-mark of all ballots cast in the vote.

“Wally has been delighting the Fenway faithful ever since he emerged from the Green Monster in 1997,” MLB wrote on their site regarding the vote. “He’s also one of the rare mascots to have a sibling, as Wally is the big brother to Tessie.”

In total, 10 mascots are on the ballot for the final vote, including two others from Major League Baseball: Fredbird of the St. Louis Cardinals and Southpaw of the Chicago White Sox.
