Patriots signing NT Davon Godchaux to 2-year deal, ESPN reports

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots continued their free agent signing splash Monday by reportedly agreeing to a two-year deal with NT Davon Godchaux, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The deal, worth $16 million over two years, was announced minutes after ESPN reported that the Patriots had reached an agreement with TE Jonnu Smith. Schefter also reported that $9 million of Godchaux’s contract will be fully guaranteed.

A fifth-round draft pick in 2017, Godchaux, 26, has been a member of the Miami Dolphins for the last four seasons. In that time, he has played both sides of the D-line at defensive tackle, before being listed as a noseguard in 2019 and 2020.

A season ago, he played just five games before being placed on injured reserve following a biceps injury that ultimately required surgery. Before the 2020 season, Godchaux had played in all but one regular-season game in his NFL career.
