3-year anniversary of the butt fumble

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) - Three years ago the Patriots were on the right side of what might be the most mocked play in NFL history: the butt fumble.

On Nov. 22, 2012 the Patriots were in New York facing the Jets when quarterback Mark Sanchez went for a sneak but ran right into the rear end of his lineman and fumbled the ball.

The ball was recovered by Patriots safety Steve Gregory who returned it for a touchdown as part of the Pats 49-19 victory.

Earlier this season the Colts ran a play that brought up many of the same feelings in Patriots Nation. They lined up for a punt, then switched their formation into a pass play, which ultimately ended with a sack. To add insult to injury several Colts players weren't lined up properly and the team incurred a penalty.

On the one-year anniversary of the Butt Fumble NFL Network posted a look back at the play.
