Veteran play-by-play man Don Orsillo will be replaced by Dave O'Brien on the Red Sox NESN broadcasting team for the 2016 season.
NESN confirmed the news in a release distributed Tuesday night, shortly before the Red Sox played the Chicago White Sox.
"This is absolutely a dream come true," said O'Brien. "It will be a privilege to call Boston Red Sox games on NESN for one of the most storied franchises in Major League Baseball. And I look forward with great anticipation to working alongside Jerry Remy."
Orsillo did not have his contract renewed and will leave after a 15-year run in the booth, which included three championship seasons.
He did not comment before Tuesday's game when approached by reporters. NESN President and CEO Sean McGrail said, "Don is an outstanding broadcaster and we are grateful for all of his contributions to NESN's telecasts over the years. On behalf of everyone at NESN and the Boston Red Sox organization, we would like extend our sincere appreciation to Don."
No specific reason for the change was offered by NESN.
