Where to learn to ski in New England this winter

This winter is already shaping up to be a better ski and snowboard season than last year.

If you want to learn to ski or snowboard this year, here are some of the best options for beginners.

Wachusett Mountain, Westminster, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts ski area offers a one day lesson for $99 dollars, which includes rental equipment.

There is also a three-day package, which can be nonconsecutive, and that comes to $199, with rental equipment.

Jiminy Peak, Lanesborough, Massachusetts

Children:

  • For kids 3 to 14, the KidsRules program offers a full day lesson, with cocoa, lunch and a life ticket. Rentals are extra. The midweek price is $119 and the weekend costs $139.
  • Two hour and 80-minute lessons for kids ages 6 and up are offered for $99 a day or $199 for a three-day package.
  • Intermediate lessons are available for anyone 6 and up, and cost $55 for 80 minutes of instruction.

Adult:

  • Lessons start at $99 each, with a 3-day package at $199. Includes rental equipment and a lift ticket.
  • Lessons are available to those who are brand new and those needing to freshen up their skills.

Mount Southington, Plantsville, Connecticut 

Children or adults:

  • Group lessons include 1.5 hours of instruction and rental equipment. For beginners, the cost is $85 and only includes access to the beginner chair and conveyor lift. For those wanting an all mountain pass, beginner to advanced, the cost is $104.

Children:

Mount Sunapee, Newbury, New Hampshire

Children:

  • Lessons are offered for ages 4 to 15 for all levels, and lessons are available for a half or full day. Prices start at $115 and include a lift ticket and rentals. A full day lesson includes lunch.

Adult:

  • For beginners, they offer a one day lesson for $89, which includes rentals and a lift ticket. The purchase includes a voucher, which can get you either a $49 lift ticket, a $59 ticket and rentals, or a $69 ticket, rentals and lesson. The voucher is valid for two days, nonconsecutive.
  • Group lessons for skiers or snowboarders with experience start at $67 on the weekend for just a lesson. During the week, a lesson is $39. These prices don't include a lift ticket or rentals.

Pats Peak, Henniker, NH

Children:

  • Lessons are available for kids 3 to 14 years old. Prices vary depending on age and the day of the week, but available for purchase are half and full day lessons and lesson packages.

Adults:

  • Clinics come in five and 10-day packages and start at $175.
