Weymouth resident using Facebook to boost support for police officers

WEYMOUTH, Mass. — A Weymouth resident has turned to Facebook to help bring awareness to what police officers deal with on a daily basis, especially in light of the tragic death of Weymouth Police Sgt. Michael Chesna.

"Most people have no idea what goes on," said the creator of Wey Scan, who asked to remain anonymous because of messages they received from anti-police followers.

Wey Scan’s creator told Boston 25 News their goal when they started the page a couple of months ago was to get more people to appreciate police officers, in part by posting the calls the officers respond to. Posts are sometimes delayed until after the scenes are cleared to protect the safety of police officers and the public.

Wey Scan’s creator noted the outpouring of community support police received following Sgt. Michael Chesna’s death.

“I would like to see that respect from the public 365/24/7, not just when something tragic happens,” they said. “I myself make sure I show respect and gratitude to police throughout the year.”

Wey Scan’s creator said they’ve received support from Weymouth Police officers, themselves.

“I have received positive feedback in messages from Weymouth Police officers, thanking me for what I am doing and telling me they love my page, they said.

Wey Scan’s creator hopes as their page grows, so will the respect people have for law enforcement.
