TSA using new X-ray technology plan to improve detection of dangerous items

The Transportation Security Administration announced a new technology plan to improve detection of explosives and other dangerous items.

In the new plan, CT scanners will be placed in a handful of airports throughout the country.

"TSA is committed in getting the best technology to enhance security and improve the screening experience," TSA Administrator David Pekoske said. "Use of CT technology substantially improves TSA's threat detection capability at the checkpoint."

The Boston Logan Airport has been one of two airports testing the technology for the past year.

In the end, the plan may allow passengers to leave laptops and liquids in their bags at security checkpoints.

The goal for the plan is to have up to 40 scanners placed around the country by the end of the year.
