White House Marine sentry bolts momentarily after lightning strike

WASHINGTON — You can’t blame a U.S. Marine sentry at the White House who bolted briefly when lightning came too close. But in typical Marine fashion, the guard remained relatively unruffled.

Video captured by C-SPAN showed the sentry standing guard at the White House during a rainstorm on Thursday at about 4:30 p.m. EDT, WUSA reported.

The video shows the sentry momentarily startled by the flash of lightning and the loud clap of thunder, “Today” reported.

The guard decided to walk inside to take shelter, but he did so with military precision, never breaking formal mannerisms to enter the building, according to “Today.”

The storms brought strong winds, small hail and downed trees to several areas in the D.C. area, WUSA reported.

“The most professional ‘Nope, I’m out,’ the world will ever see,” one person tweeted.

The sentry returned to his post several minutes later and stood at attention as the rainstorm continued, WUSA reported.
