Subway employee in New Mexico robbed shop to teach co-worker ‘a lesson,' police say

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A Subway sandwich shop employee in New Mexico and her friend are accused of robbing the Las Cruces store to teach other employees “a lesson,” authorities said.

Lorena Ariana Marin, 22, who works at the store, and Angelo Rey Espinosa, 19, were arrested and charged with one count each of robbery after they allegedly robbed the business Monday night, the Las Cruces Sun reported.

According to the Las Cruces Police Department, Espinosa stood by while Marin verbally and physically threatened the employees after jumping behind the counter, KVIA reported. The pair moved the employees to the back of the store, but one employee was able to flee the building, run to her car and drive away, the television station reported.

Both Marin and Espinosa fled on foot, according to KVIA. They were arrested minutes after they left, the Sun reported.

According to police, Marin told investigators she was involved in the robbery and “indicated she wanted to teach one of the employees a lesson about what could happen late at night in that part of town,” the Sun reported.

The charges against Marin and Espinosa are third-degree felonies, the newspaper reported. If convicted, they could each be fined $5,000 and serve up to three years in prison, or both.
