According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Gorton’s Seafood issued a recall Wednesday for more than 500 packages of frozen fish sandwich fillets that may contain “large and/or sharp bone fragments.”

The recalled 18.3-ounce packages, labeled “Gorton’s Fish Sandwich100% Whole Fillets,” bear UPC 0-44400-15440-6, date code 2060F2 and a time range of 15:30 to 17:30, according to the company announcement. The affected products were distributed to Hannaford Supermarkets in New York and Vermont; Giant and Giant Martin’s food stores in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland; Berkeley Supermarket, Farm Fresh, Food Depot, Green Valley Marketplace, Harvest Fare, Shoppers Value Foods, St. Paul Grocery Market, Tiger Market, Tri-Star Supermarket and Wegmans stores in Virginia and Maryland; and U.S. military commissaries in North Carolina, Virginia and Puerto Rico, the news release said.

“All retail stores that received the recalled product have been instructed to immediately remove this item from their shelves,” the company said.

Although officials have not received any reports of injuries in connection with the products, Gorton’s issued the recall “to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our consumers,” the release said, adding that consuming the flagged fillets “may pose a choking hazard.”
