Recall alert: 300K Ram trucks recalled; owners warned not to park them in garage

Ram is recalling more than 300,000 of its pickups and trucks because a part may overheat and can cause a fire, according to the company.

According to the recall notice, the intake heater-grid relays may be overheating, and that can pose a risk of fire.

According to the company, it was aware of six fires that could be related to the heater-grid relays. Five of the fires happened while the vehicles’ engines were turned on. The sixth incident happened after the ignition was turned off.

At least 306,165 models are under this recall. The affected models have 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines and prior-generation heater-grid relays are:

· 2021-2023 Ram 2500 pickups

· 2021-2023 Ram 3500 pickups

· 2021-2023 Ram 3500 cab chassis trucks

· 2021-2023 Ram 4500 cab chassis trucks

· 2021-2023 Ram 5500 cab chassis trucks

Ram is telling owners to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the relay can be replaced. Owners will be notified by mail on March 31, and dealers will replace the relay for free.
