TROY, Ohio — An Ohio man could face life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his roommate, as well as stealing the victim’s car and cutting off his thumb.
Sean Higgins pleaded guilty in a Miami County Courtroom to six charges in the murder of his roommate, Easton Ho, WHIO reported.
Higgins was arrested on April 14 after he allegedly confessed to killing Ho and dumping his body out of state, according to court records obtained by WHIO.
Ho’s body was found near Greenville Creek in Randolph County on April 15, in the area where Higgins allegedly told police the body was dumped, Troy Police Chief Shawn McKinney told WHIO.
Investigators said that Higgins “cut off the dead victim’s thumb” and kept it “to access and use the victim’s cell phone,” WHIO reported.
Police told WHIO that there were a number of text messages sent from Ho’s phone that they believe were written by Higgins posing as the victim.
Higgins was also accused of stealing the victim’s Ford Flex, which was found in the parking lot of a shopping plaza, covered in blood and with the license plates removed, according to court records.
Higgins is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 5, and faces a maximum sentence of life without parole and a potential fine of $45,000, according to WHIO.
